You must wonder why? Why all this talk about making money online and going on and on about paid posts?
Seriously? You just get sucked in! I mean you start out just wanting to jump on the bandwagon, - everyone is blogging nowadays - to keeping a journal and see it live online which seems like fun. And then you either get hooked on telling everyone about your life story (as if anyone would be interested to read your drivel about what you had for breakfast or what you did or how happy/sad your life is) or hooked on checking out all the little widgets you find on other people's blog so that you can do the same for yours. Then you realize that people earn a living doing this! No. I don't mean checking out little widgets! I mean blogging for money.
So you think, maybe you can do the same. And then you now get hooked on learning how to make money online with catch words like, posties, adsense, page rank, alexa ranking which used to be greek to me but now turning me into geek (pardon the rhyming!)
I spend quite a while reading blogs, news and tips from sites I subscribe to. I guess when I do something, I always want to do it right. Initially I was only interested to make my blog look the way I want it to so I struggled with learning html from scratch. That itself was an amazing feat considering that I had a knack of crashing a computer just by touching it! I don't sweat html so much now using the new blogger but it still isn't satisfying because I still want to design a better template for mine.
But I digress....the thing is, I thought earning a few USDs will satisfy me - a little online shopping seems a thrill but now as the few USDs add up, I'm beginning to see a whole new potential. Now the challenge is learning the tricks of the trade.
Of course I'm way behind but along the way, the internet gurus or successful bloggers do drop a hint or two and some have made teaching us newbies a vocation in itself. There are many generous bloggers out there but I must say that I've learned from a friend who is crazy about economic and who directed me to Frédéric Bastiat's Parable of the broken window - and this friend concludes that nothing in this world is free.
There is a you scratch my back and I scratch yours in the blogging sphere. See I am doing a review of a website for monetary gains - that's if I win it in this contest like review. The site gets a review from contestants. The more the better and that increases traffic and links for the reviewed. But I am not entering the contest so much to actually win money - see, with trackbacks and linkbacks (just google it if you don't know the jargon :) and by my submitting this review on the site, I stand a chance of people visiting my site via this contest and I have added another link to my blog hence a chance of increasing my page rank. My back is being scratched as I write!
If I participate in something like this I am in fact, helping myself and this is what I did learn from the site I reviewed! By copying and I do mean copying (because who knows where the actual source is - everyone is googling it for free) his strategy I could probably do the same for my blog? Good idea?
See I learn fast! So you want to learn how to win USD100? Well at least, this has a source so check out the rules of the review.
